What is financial aid?
Financial aid is any form of funding that helps students pay for college. It includes scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study programs. Scholarships and grants are typically awarded based on factors like financial need or academic achievement, while loans must be repaid after finishing your education.

How does financial aid work?
Different types of aid are provided through various sources, such as federal and state agencies, colleges, high schools, foundations, and corporations. The amount of aid a student receives depends on federal, state, and institutional guidelines, and students have the choice to accept or reject the aid offered.

Who is eligible for financial aid?
Applicants for most types of financial aid must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or other eligible non-citizen. They must also have a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree-seeking student. Applicants must be enrolled at least half-time (for most financial aid funds) and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). They must not be in default on a federal student loan and not owe money on a federal student grant.
